6 Tips To Plan The Perfect Summer Party

Warm summer days, star-soaked nights.

Summer is the time for good food and good friends.

After all, who doesn't love spending time outside with family and friends and delicious smells wafting from the grill. Drinks are flowing and the sounds of laughter from kids and adults alike permeate the air. Look around and everyone has a smile on their face. That's the sign of a perfect summer party where lifelong memories are being made.

As the warm weather of summer approaches and the promise of parties and entertaining comes closer at hand, here are 6 tips to help you create the perfect shoreline summer party.

Regardless of whether it's evening cocktails or a full blown 4th of July party, you need to have a designated space for your guests to congregate. A backyard patio is the ideal spot for this. Most decks are too small for grilling and entertaining, so a patio off the deck creates the perfect transition between cooking and entertaining.

Keep the party going with outdoor lighting. Create the perfect illumination to enhance your landscaping and provide enough light to entertain no matter what time the party starts. You can add party lighting, tiki torches, lights around the patio or deck, and gorgeous landscape lighting in your plants. Landscape lighting is a great way to set the mood for not only your party and create unbeatable summer memories, but provide year-long visual enhancement to your landscape.

Food is the center of any backyard party. A single propane or charcoal grill will get the job done, but to really set the tone, an outdoor kitchen will be the key to it all. A multi-burner gas grill, outdoor appliances such as a working sink and refrigerator, maybe even an outdoor oven! No matter how simple or extravagant, you can customize what you need and be able to spend more time with your guests without having to run back and forth to the kitchen to get what you need.

Be sure your home is welcoming. Soften hard spaces such as patios and driveways with containers brimming with seasonal flowers. Cut flowers from your garden to create fresh bouquets all around your home and yard.

Anytime you entertain outside, you want to be sure your guests are not only fed and entertained, but you want to create an inviting atmosphere. Surround your outdoor living space with a gorgeous display of flowers and plant life. Trees provide privacy and shade and create a park-like setting. Plant mosquito and tick repelling plants such as lavender, mint and rosemary in your garden and containers.

Make flavors pop by using fresh herbs right from your garden in your cooking. A small herb and vegetable garden can create an incredible yield to share with your guests.

An outdoor fire is a great way to continue to entertain your guests after the sun sinks. Reminisce by the firelight while you create new memories that will last for years to come. An outdoor fire can be grand as an outdoor fireplace with chimney, a permanent fire pit in the patio, or as simple as a circle of large rocks in a spot in the back yard.
